Yet another recall has been initiated involving a Johnson & Johnson product as hundreds of thousands of leaky insulin cartridges are being recalled.

The insulin cartridges are manufactured by their Animas unit and have the potential to lead to serious health problems and death, thus this recall is very serious.

The latest product recall in the United States involves two brands of Skippy peanut butter believed to be contaminated by salmonella bacteria.

Unilever is the maker of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy as well as Skippy Reduced Fat Super Chunk peanut butter which was distributed to 16 US states.

The company has issued a recall of the product which was distributed to 16 US states: North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Maine, Iowa, Illinois, Connecticut, Delaware, New Hampshire, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, and New Jersey.

Washington (HealthKnowItAll) – A massive recall of hazelnuts has been announced because of a possible link with E. coli bacteria. The packaged and bulk containers of in-shell hazelnuts and mixed nuts made by DeFranco & Sons of Los Angeles were sold in the United States and Canada last November and December and have been linked to seven cases of E. coli bacteria contamination in the states of Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. The affected nuts were sold under the brand names Sunripe, George Packing, Firestone Farms, and Northwest Hazelnut, in a variety of packages as small as one pound.

E. coli infection is generally not that serious but can make life very unpleasant for up to 72 hours. Symptoms include: abdominal cramps and diarrhea, along with vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, etc. Young children and the elderly are at greater risk of complications from E. coli contamination and in extreme cases infection can result in kidney failure.

Houston (HealthKnowItAll) – The Food and Drug Administration has put out an order to immediately remove over 500 unregulated and unapproved cold and cough medication from the market.

While the drugs have not had any major side effects – mostly drowsiness – there is concern that there could be worse medical problems in the future.

Medtronic Recalling 37,000 Faulty Pacemakers

Medical device maker Medtronic have issued a recall for a type of pacemaker that they say can considerably raise a patient’s risk of sudden death because of problems that have been reported with it.

According to the company up to 37,000 of their devices are being recalled due to wiring issues that could cause the device to missfire or even quit working. Read more
