It is being reported today that Chicago blues singer Koko Taylor has died at the age of 80 from complications of gastrointestinal surgery
It is being reported today that Chicago blues singer Koko Taylor has died at the age of 80 from complications of gastrointestinal surgery.

The blues icon passed away at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago only 4 weeks after she gave her last performance at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, Tenn.

She had underwent surgery at the hospital back on May 19, and appeared to be recovering nicely until she took a turn for the worst.

She will be remembered for smash hits including “I’m a Woman,” “Hey Bartender,” “Wang Dang Doodle” and many more.

Taylor was born Cora Walton in 1928, and had 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, husband, 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
