Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Results of a new study find that many Americans are not getting enough vitamin D in their diets.
Vitamin D is found in foods such as bread, cereal as well as dairy, but we get the largest amount of this crucial vitamin from the sun.
The study was carried out by researchers from the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.
The researchers analyzed an estimated 32,000 people for their study, all of whom participants of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
In the first group of participants the researchers looked at compared to the second group, the levels of reported vitamin D consumption dropped dramatically.
This fact translates to 3 of 4 Americans not getting sufficient levels of vitamin D.
According to researchers, appropriate levels of vitamin D are between 30 and 40 nanograms per milliliter of blood.
