Bacteria Lives On Human Skin, Gross

You may think that you are clean but you are not, as a new study has found that there are hundreds of different types of bacteria living on our skin.
This may sound gross to some people and cool to others, but what is not cool is that fact that if any of these bacteria enter into your bloodstream they can kill you.
For their study the researchers used the same technique that was used to read the human genome, to test samples of skin taken from various parts of the body.
They tested skin samples from the navel, armpits, the inside of the nose, the forearm, the ear, the scalp and between the eyebrows.
The researchers noted that there are many different types of bacteria living on our skin, with similar types of bacteria found on multiple people in certain skin areas.
“All our knowledge had been based on what we could culture in the laboratory,” stated the author of the study. “Culturing puts a bias on what you can study. You’re limited to what you can grow at a certain temperature in enriched media. In culture, you can find what you are looking for, but it’s hard to find what is not there.”
