Washington (HealthKnowItAll) - Supplementing with vitamin D may protect against the common cold and other respiratory infections.

This is the finding of a new study by researchers from Harvard Medical School and Children’s Hospital Boston.

The researchers analyzed data compiled from the Third National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey.

In total, more than 19,000 health records were looked at by the researchers.

They noted that those participants who reported a high vitamin D intake were less likely to get common colds.

Vitamin D in previous studies has also been found to reduce incidents of colon cancer and osteoporosis.

We get our vitamin D from sunlight, as well as foods such as bread, tuna and mil,k.
