Cutting Calories is Best Way to Lose Weight

Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Reducing your daily caloric intake is still the best way to lose weight say researchers.
Over the years, numerous diets have come on the market; low-carb, high-protein just to name a few.
Researchers say that it does not matter if you reduce carbs, or eat foods high in protein, it is the calories that really matter.
The amount of calories that you take in must be less than the amount of calories you burn off if you want to lose weight say researchers.
To prove this, they assigned more than 800 overweight people to 1 of 4 diet plans.
The diets were different in the sense of caloric intake, carbs and fat intake and protein intake.
The dieters were asked to reduce their daily caloric intake by 750.
On average the participants lost 13 pounds, but gained it back after a year of follow-up.
“The hidden secret is it doesn’t matter if you focus on low-fat or low-carb,” said Dr. Elizabeth Nabel, director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
The study can be found in today’s New England Journal of Medicine.
