Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Results of a new study have confirmed that some diets are better than others when it comes to our heart health.

As thought to be the case, diets made up of high amounts of fruits and vegetables are good for heart health, while those comprised of starchy foods and trans fats are bad for the heart.

Researchers from Hamilton Ontario Canada, analyzed up to 200 different diets for their study and found many foods such as meat and some dairy products that do not have enough evidence as of yet to determine if they are good or bad for our hearts.

The researchers analyzed studies which were published from 1950 to June 2007.

“There are many, many nutrients or foods or dietary patterns that have been reported on, but only a few have very solid evidence supporting the association,” said co-author Dr. Sonia Anand.

There study findings do hold a lot of merit however.

In North America where the traditional diet contains a lot of fast food and processed food, the rate of obesity and heart disease is much higher than say, the traditional diet followed in some Asian countries such as China or Japan.

The study was published in Monday’s Archives of Internal Medicine.
