Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Results of a new study suggest that Americans who eat out at restaurants on a regular basis are consuming much more salt than is recommended.
Consuming too much salt can raise a person’s blood pressure, which raises their risk of diabetes and heart disease.
When one eats out, one tends to eat foods that are not always good for them, foods such as pizza, french fries, and other delicious treats.
The study, carried out by researchers from the Center for Science in the Public Interest finds that in some cases, Americans eat 4 times their daily alottment of salt in one sitting.
Salt is used to enhance flavor of food, and in many cases we grow to love it, to crave it as part of our meals.
Some restaurants named as being bad when it comes to serving salty foods, include Red Lobster, Burger King and Arby’s.
According to Health Canada, if people followed health guidelines when it comes to salt intake, the number of strokes could be prevented by as much as 30 percent.
