New guidelines have been released by a medical panel which recommend weight that women should gain throughout their pregnancies in order to be healthy.

For obese women the guidelines are kinda tough, as they recommend upto only an increase in weight of 20lbs during pregnancy.

“More women are already obese when they become pregnant. Based on data from the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, one-fifth of American women are obese at the start of pregnancy, a figure that has risen 70 percent in the last decade,” the report reads.

For women at the other end of the scale, those who are underweight they can gain up to 40lbs during their pregnancies.

Those women deemed to be of a healthy bodyweight should gain up to 30lbs during their pregnancies to provide the most healthy vneironment for their unborn babies.

Those women who are considered overweight but not obese, are recommended to gain up to 25lbs during their pregnancies.
