Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Eli Lilly have been granted broader approval of their Zyprexa Prozac combination therapy to treat patients with treatment-resistant depression.
Symbyax is the name of the pill, which is a combination of an antipsychotic, and antidepressant drug.
Both drugs are made by Eli Lilly, and have resulted in huge gains for the company due to their popularity over the years.
Treatment-resistant depression is defined as depression that has not been helped via at least 2 previous prescriptions of antidepressant drugs.
This approval marks the first time that the FDA has approved any drug for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression.
As far as the individual drugs go, Eli recently added a warning to the label of their Zyprexa, warning of the possibility of increased weight gain.
