Glaxo Says Their Cancer Vaccine Tops Gardasil In Clinical Trials

Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Results of a new study prove that Glaxo’s cancer vaccine Cervarix is more effective than Merck’s Gardasil.
Gardasil has been touted as the best vaccine for girls to be given to prevent cervical cancer, but this new study offers a different outlook.
The trial, sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline pitted the 2 drugs, Gardasil and Cervarix against each other so researchers could determine which was more effective.
Some participants were injected with Gardasil, others given Glaxo’s Cervarix.
Researchers then measured the amount of antibodies in the bodies of the participants, to compare which drug invoked a greater immune response.
Results indicated that Cervarix provided a bigger immune response than did the rival Gardasil vaccine.
“The fact that the immunogenicity of the two vaccines is different is an important factor for (clinical) practitioners to consider. It is just one piece of information but it is an important piece,” stated Gary Dubin, head of clinical development for Cervarix.
Currently, Merck’s Gardasil is the only vaccine on the U.S. market for preventing cervical cancer.
