Once upon a time it was the common belief that taking aspirin on a daily basis could actually help the heart.

New evidence has come to light which may in fact put a dampener on this theory, as aspirin has been proven to be bad for the stomach.

According to British researchers, who studied more than 100,000 records of patients taking aspirin only those who have had a heart attack should be taking it daily.

“We found that the very people who are at increased risk for coronary heart disease are also at increased risk for bleeds,” University of Oxford epidemiologist Colin Baigent, FFPH, said in an interview with website WebMD.

Aspirin is recommended for anybody at risk of having a heart attack because it thins the blood, making it easier for the heart to pump it throughout the body.
