An experimental drug by AstraZeneca appears to slow down the progression of lung cancer in patients diagnosed with the disease.
The drug called Zactima, was shown to extend the lives of people diagnosed with lung cancer, despite failing 2 previous studies.
The drug was tested on more than 1,391 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer, a very serious form of the disease.
When combined with standard chemotherapy, the drug appeared to slow down the growth of lung tumors, and in some cases even reduce them in size.
AstraZeneca plan to file for approval for their drug by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by the end of the year.
