Study Proves Avandia Does Not Cause Heart Attacks

Results of a new study have found no risk of heart health issues in patients given the drug avandia to help treat their diabetes.
Avandia is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline and is prescribed to people suffering with diabetes.
Back in 2007, a massive study was published that suggested that diabetes patients taking avandia were at increased risk of heart attacks.
The study found that avandia does not increase risk of overall heart risks, but does increase risk of heart failure and bone fractures.
According to Murray Stewart, vice president of clinical development for Glaxo, the results from the clinical trial, are comparable to those seen with other leading diabetes treatments currently on the market.
The study researchers presented their study findings at the American Diabetes Association annual meeting in New Orleans.
