Amylin Diabetes Drug Outperforms Leading Rivals
June 7, 2009 by admin

It is being reported that a new diabetes drug made by Amylin has outperformed Actos and Januvia in a clinical trial.
Actos and Januvia are major players in the drug market when it comes to diabetes, thus this study finding will surely be a major blow to their sales.
Exenatide is the name of the drug from Amylin, one that is administered once daily via injection and provided more stable blood sugar control than the other drugs.
The drug was compared in a 490 person clinical study against the high profile Actos and Januvia treatments to check for any similarities.
Exenatide proved to be more efficient when it came to controling blood sugar levels, weight gain and sudden spikes in a patient’s glucose level.
“In this study, it looked like the once-weekly seemed to be the best choice when you consider glucose, weight and cardiovascular markers,” stated Dr. Richard Bergenstal, executive director of the Internal Diabetes Center at Park Nicollet in Minneapolis.
