GlaxoSmithKline are reporting positive results for their new experimental drug to treat people diagnosed with diabetes.

Their drug, called Albiglutide was proven to be very good in clinical trials at lowering the blood sugar of people with diabetes to an exceptable level.

Albiglutide is a once a week drug, that is in its early stages of development and works by coaxing the pancreas to produce more insulin for the body.

There were only a few minor side effects in patients taking the drug. They were nausea, vomiting and headaches.

Diabetes is a condition that occurs when the pancreas fails to produce insulin, a hormone used to regulate the body’s blood sugar levels.

The data from the 14 week clinical trial featuring the drug was presented at the American Diabetes Association’s annual scientific meeting in New Orleans.
