Novo Nordisk Diabetes Drug Outperforms Rival In Study
June 9, 2009 by admin

Results of a study show that the diabetes drug liraglutide made by Novo Nordisk outperforms older drugs on the market to treat people with the condition.
The drug, which comes in an injectable format was tested in a clinical trial against the drug glimepiride, and proved more effective when it came to controling blood sugar levels.
There were some side effects reported in patients taking liraglutide, mainly nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, but none were of the serious variety.
Diabetes occurs when the pancreas fails to produce enough insulin, which the body needs in order to regulate levels of blood sugar.
There was another unexpected benefit in patients who took liraglutide, that being increased weight loss when compared to the other drug.
The study was presented in full on Sunday at the American Diabetes Associations’ scientific meeting in New Orleans.
