Results of a new study suggest that certain drugs to treat children diagnosed with ADHD can actually raise their risk of sudden death
Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Results of a new study suggest that certain drugs to treat children diagnosed with ADHD can actually raise their risk of sudden death.

This study finding is a shocking one for sure, due to the fact that ADHD drugs are prescribed to millions of hyperactive children each year and only now is this apparent link being recognized.

Researchers studied data on more than 560 children who died suddenly to try to find a common link that could explain their deaths.

They were able to determine that out of those children who died, those taking ADHD drugs were at a 7 times greater risk of death than those children and teens not taking the drugs.

The researchers hope that their study findings will change the way in which children are treated when they are diagnosed with ADHD.

They wrote: “this finding should be considered in the context of other data about the risk and benefit of stimulants in medical treatment.”
