FDA Warns Consumers to Stay Away from Zicam nasal spray

Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - The FDA is warning consumers to avoid Zicam nasal spray as it can apparently result in a permanent loss of smell if ingested.

Zicam nasal spray is a type of cold remedy that the FDA insists consumers stop taking immediately.

It is a very effective cold medicine and is very popular because it actually works to ease cold symptoms.

The maker of Zicam nasal spray, Matrixx Initiatives is currently facing multiple law suits from people alleging that the product damaged their sence of smell.

Many cold meds contain the ingredient zinc, which according to scientists can promote can damage nerves in the nose.

According to the FDA they have received 130 cases of people losing the ability to smell after they used the product.
