Pope Denounces Condom Use For Controling African AIDS Epidemic

Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - The pope is wrong when he says that ending comdom use is a good way to stem the AIDS epidemic in Africa.
This is the opinion of many leading health advocates, who say that the Pope is just attempting to confuse people when it comes to ways to control the virus.
The pope is in favor of abstinence as a way of controling the spreading of AIDS, as this is the practice recommended by the church.
Just because the Catholic church promotes abstinence, does not mean that the rest of the world follows suit, a fact obviously not recognized by the Pope when he made his statement.
This recommendation made by the Pope did not sit well with many, including health ministers with the Pan American Health Organisation.
“Whilst I would hope that Catholics would continue to be extremely supportive of their church and the pope … on this issue, they (should) rely on the evidence, and we need at this time to come out forcefully with the evidence to demonstrate that condoms and lifestyle matter,” play a huge part in reducing new cases of the virus, said World Health Assembly President, Guyana’s Health Minister Leslie Ramsammy.
Ramsammy called the Pope’s stance on condom use, “absolutely and unequivocally wrong,” and recommended the continued use of condoms as a way of controling the AIDS outbreak.
