Rep. Wasserman Introduces Breast Cancer Awareness Bill
March 24, 2009 by admin

Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Rep. Debbie Wasserman, a Congresswoman from Florida is pushing cancer legislation after beating the disease herself.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer at 41 years of age back in 2007 even though she was cleared via a mammogram previous to her diagnosis.
She found a lump in her breast during a self exam, and quickly acted on it, seeking medical help which confirmed her diagnosis.
She did not go public with her breast cancer diagnosis, until she was cleared of the disease, saying that she did not want it to define her.
She is pushing the Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Act, which would provide more education and awareness opportunities for young women.
“Young women do think we’re invincible; and we don’t think about it,” Schultz said on “Good Morning America” today. “And it will focus on educating physicians. So many times physicians blow off a young woman when she comes in with symptoms or warning signs because they don’t focus on that young women can get breast cancer.”
According to the American Cancer Society, up to 10,000 women under the age of 40 are diagnosed with cancer each and every year.
