California health officials are reporting the death of an elementary school student from the feared H5N1 swine flu virus.

According to health officials, the child, whose identity is being withheld died back on May 29 and is the third death in the state from the virus.

Swine flu has taken the world by storm, being reported in more than 60 countries and infecting more than 19,000 people globally.

In the United States, 21 deaths have been linked to the virus, which drug makers are currently making a vaccine for.

In Mexico, where the virus originated, more than 60 deaths have been reported and the majority of cases have also been reported in that country.
