Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - It is being reported that Northern Star Co. have initiated a voluntary recall of certain potatoes due to fears of listeria.

Tops Friendly Markets is the latest chain to begin pulling potatoes off their shelves, after the company issued a health alert.

Shredded Hash Browns, Southwest Style Hash Browns, and Red Potato Wedges are all being recalled by the manufacturer after samples tested by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture tested positive for listeria.

Listeria bacteria can lead to listeriosis which presents with symptoms including stiff neck, fever, head ache, and nausea.

The recall listed foods with use by dates of March 29 to April 3 and urges consumers to throw away any of the listed products.

Currently there have been no reported illnesses as a result of the contaminated potatoes.
