Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - The reported number of people living in America to be sickened in the latest salmonella outbreak has reached 666.
The outbreak, linked to tainted peanut butter, has also resulted in 9 deaths.
Peanut Corperation of America has been fingered as the company behind the outbreak and have subsequently closed 2 plants and filed for bankrupcy.
The FBI have since launched a criminal investigation into the company after news broke that they knew of problems with their product but did nothing to fix things.
“To date, 19 clusters of infections in five states have been reported in schools and other institutions, such as long-term care facilities and hospitals. King Nut brand peanut butter was present in all facilities,” the CDC said in a statement.
The recall of peanut butter products, is one of the largest recalls in US history but despite this fact, only 9 deaths have been linked to the peanut butter products so far.
More than 2000 different brands of food have been recalled, both in the US and even North of the border in Canada.
