Washington (HealthKnowItAll) - Salmonella cases are still being reported following the largest food recall in U.S. history.
Peanut butter produced by Peanut Corperation of America was found to be contaminated with salmonella bacteria, resulting in hundreds of Americans developing salmonella poisoning.
As many as 9 deaths have been linked to people eating tainted peanut butter products, and the number of sickened Americans continues to mount.
The CDC released a statement last week to the effect that 666 Americans had been diagnosed with salmonella linked to the peanut butter products.
People are being urged to throw out any peanut butter products that they may have lying around their cupboards, to insure their safety.
More than 2,833 products have been pulled from store shelves, but despite the attempt by authorities to remove all tainted products, people are still falling ill.
“FDA and CDC are concerned that illness will continue to occur if people eat recalled peanut-containing products that are still on their shelves at home,” the CDC said on its website.
