Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - Results of a new study prove that long term use of drug-eluding stents is safe.
There has been conflicting opinions across the medical community as to the effects of metal vurses drug-eluding stents, with many doctors fearing that drug-eluding stents put patients at risk of early death.
This new study was carried out by Swedish researchers, who are the same researchers who a number of years ago released a study in which they shunned the use of drug coated stents.
The study featured 48,000 heart patients, some of whom received metal stents, others received drug-eluding ones.
Stents are little mesh wires that are implanted by surgeons in arteries of heart patients that work to keep arteries open.
Drug coated stents are similar to metal stents, except for a coating of drug compound which is applied to help prevent scar tissue from forming.
Millions of Americans are walking around with drug-eluding stents inside their bodies and this study result will surely make them feel a whole lot better.
