Boston (HealthKnowItAll) - A new tool has been developed by US researchers to determine the risk of a person developing Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s is a brain degenerative disorder that is characterized by a type of plaque protein forming on the brain.
The disease is long progressing, is eventually fatal and currently has no cure.
Despite having no cure, there are a lot of drugs currently on the market to help reduce symptoms associated with the disease.
The tool is in the form of a checklist which in a study on elderly patients was accurate at predicting Alzheimer’s disease up to 50% of the time.
The researchers say that doctors could find their tool very useful as they could use it to keep a close eye on their elderly patients and begin treatment early upon the appearance of Alzheimer’s symptoms.
