New research proves that to live a long happy life free of disease, following the Mediterranean diet is something that you should be doing.

The diet is hpacked with fruits and veggies, seafood and other healthy items, while avoiding dairy, red meat and other tasty treats.

The diet has been proven to lower the risk of developing metabolic Syndrome - a cluster of health risk factors for heart attacks and diabetes that include abdominal fat, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

For their study the researchers analyzed up to 50 previous studies featuring up to 500,000 people and were able to show that those who followed a Mediterranean style diet were at reduced risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

“Encouraging adherence to the Mediterranean diet might be a solution to the problem [of metabolic syndrome] because the foods comprising this dietary pattern — apart from its various health benefits — are tasty and it is easy to follow in the long term,” state the researchers.
