Washington (HealthKnowItAll) – The fast food giant McDonald’s has announced that they are going to begin to make their menu healthier, including Happy Meals.

McDonald’s Corp. has been taking quite a few hits over the past decade as Americans are pushing more and more to fight the obesity epidemic.

The fast food giant has responded as they are going to be changing up their menu quite a bit to make it healthier for adults and children.

The biggest change is going to come to the Happy Meals which are geared towards children.

These changes are going to take effect in September for certain restaurants, and expand to all U.S. McDonald’s by April 2012.

The biggest change is to add a service of fruit or vegetable to all of its Happy Meals for kids.

On top of that, they are also shrinking the size of the French fries from a 2.4 ounce container to a 1.1 ounce.

The fruits and vegetables which will be included will vary from carrots, pineapples, apples, oranges, etc.

Overall, McDonald’s is aiming to reduce calories in all of their meals by as much as 20%.
