Boston (HealthKnowItAll) – A new study released this week has found that by increasing muscle mass, you can actually greatly lower your risk of type 2 diabetes.

The study was led by researchers from the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and focused on over 13,500 adults in total.

The adults all went through a survey as part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III.

The idea was to see if there was any link between muscle mass and the overall risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

What researchers found was that for every 10% increase in muscle mass that was found in those surveyed, their risk of diabetes decreased.

This was found as there was a decrease in their resistance in insulin, something which leads to type 2 diabetes development.

Insulin resistance is one of the leading pre-cursors of type 2 diabetes.

With nearly 80 million people in the U.S. who suffer from this impending type 2 diabetes condition, the hope is that this will help people learn how to control it and beat it before it forms into the full-blown disease.
