Salmonella May Fend Off Cancer

New research indicates that salmonella bacteria may actually be useful when it comes to fighting cancer.

Salmonella is usually feared by humans as it can make us very sick but according to researchers from the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Centre the bug can actually fend off cancers.

“Many bacteria and viruses – even harmful ones – can be used to fight disease”, said Masonic Cancer Clinic medical director Edward Greeno, who led the study.

The bacteria appears to reduce cancers of the gut, colon and spleen, all areas that the salmonella bug also targets.

It is kind of ironic to think that a bug that we all fear so much can actually fend off something that we fear even more.
