Tomorrow Is World Kidney Day

March 9, 2011 by

Tomorrow March 10 is World Kidney Day, a day to reflect on the lives of those lost because of kidney disease and to educate yourself on ways of limiting your risk of contracting the condition.

Our kidneys are very important organs for healthy body function as they excrete toxins through urine that would otherwise be trapped inside our bodies where they could cause a lot of other health problems.

World Kidney Day is celebrated around the world in more than 100 different countries, featuring marches, free kidney screening and education sessions.

This year the theme of World Kidney Day is diabetes, as diabetes patients are at special risk of developing the condition.

It is estimated that on a global scale more than 600 million people live with kidney disease, and in many cases the condition is preventable through a proper diet and responsible alcohol consumption.
